nightradio

this project reflects an interest in automobile am radio and the affects of weather, time of day and altitude on it's reception. While driving between los angeles and valencia i noticed that the sounds produced by an automobile am radio became more modulated as i climbed into mountain passes, particularly in cooler weather and in the evening. as time passed i found myself listening "between " stations more often than to the stations themselves. It reminded me of a youthful discovery of shortwave where the limitations of the medium and atmospheric conditions gave rise to images of varied rooms and lighting, completely constructed by the listener of these distant voices. I began sampling these sounds and editing them digitally.
