CalArts MFA Open Studios
Graduate Students in Art and Photo/Media Programs Open Their Studios to the Public

Who:
More than 50 graduate students in the Program in Art, the Program in Photography & Media, and the Center for Integrated Media at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) invite visitors into their studios and offer a look into the artistic concerns and methodologies of the next generation coming out of CalArts.

These independent-minded, highly motivated students represent the next wave of artists, pushing into new territories in a multitude of artistic mediums - painting and drawing, installation, video, photography, sculpture, performance, sound, multimedia and interactivity.

CalArts has consistently produced artists of the top rank. Notable CalArts alumni include Sam Durant, Mike Kelley, Liz Larner, Daniel Martinez, Catherine Opie, Rubén Ortiz-Torres ,Tony Oursler, Laura Owens, Lari Pittman, David Salle, and James Welling among many others.

What:
The Open Studios event is a chance to get an insider's view of the artistic innovation and critical reflection that lies at the heart of the work being created at CalArts, ranked as the #4 Master of Fine Arts program in the country by US News and World Report's Best Graduate Schools 2004 edition.

This is the one day a year when the public can get a peek at where and how these artists work, see works-in-progress, ask questions, interact with the artists and gain an understanding of what goes into the creative process.

Free snacks and cold beverages will be available.
